13th Annual Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Symposium
The Fairmont Chicago - September 15-18, 2011
The optimal management of breast cancer is rapidly evolving. A multidisciplinary team of medical, surgical and radiation oncologists, pathologists, plastic surgeons and genetic counselors are routinely involved in offering treatment recommendations for individual patients with a diagnosis of breast cancer. With the emergence of prevention strategies, women at high risk of developing breast cancer are now evaluated for medical therapies, surgical options and lifestyle changes that may reduce their risk of developing breast cancer. The 13th Annual Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Symposium provides a forum for discussing and presenting laboratory and clinical research concerning the care of patients with breast cancer.
At the conclusion of this symposium participants should be able to:
- Identify the options for individualizing care in the breast cancer patient and the challenges associated with providing such care.
- Describe techniques used in molecular testing of breast tumors and the associated importance from a clinical perspective.
- Explain the differences between the imaging modalities available to screen and diagnose breast cancer.
- Cite the principles of nanotechnology and its therapeutic and diagnostic potential as it relates to breast cancer.
- Recognize the unique clinical and surgical decisions which need to be taken into consideration in younger patients diagnosed with breast cancer.
- Compare the therapeutic approaches for patients undergoing neoadjuvent therapy.
- Review the risk-benefit of different systemic therapy options and the tools that may assist in decision making.
- Describe the epidemiologic data supporting the role of vitamin D and breast cancer.
